Artwork DescriptionThis black-and-white photograph presents a finely detailed collection of eight dragon flies on a white ground.
Description on ObjectDianne Kornberg; Dragonflies; split-toned silver photo; 1986; 14 x 18 inches
NotesThis project included the construction of a complex of four major science buildings, the construction of a new Museum of Natural History and two smaller architecture studio buildings to replace dislocated facilities, and a remodel of a former science building for Architecture and Allied Arts, which lost about 15,000 net square feet of programmatic space to construction of the new science buildings. The project was completed from 1989-1991.

Artist StatementThe dragonflies are from the collection of a young friend. In this photograph I was interested in the play of light and shadow through the wings of the insects, which are arranged in a flower-like form. This delicacy contrasts with the mounting pins and contracted legs. A tension is created between what one initially perceives and a content that becomes apparent on closer inspection (Kornberg, 1989).
