Mr. Donald Warfield Director of Minority Relations Nestor Hall University of Oregon Eugene, Oregon Dear Mr. Warfield: I have just received your letter of October 29, Your unhappiness about the loss of your shoes and sweat suit is understandable. However, I see no alternative but to hold you responsible for the loss of the clothing checked out to you. Regardless of how the clothing disappeared you are still accountable for it., sometimes the clothing is lost because of carelessness of the individual involved. Sometimes it is stolen from him. But regardless of the manner in which it disappeared, it is our standard procedure to hold the individual accountable for the lost items. I am sure that President Johnson and Dr. Hawk would expect to pay for their clothing if they had lost it under similar circumstances. Sincerely yours, A. A.
