| Full Text | OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT UNIVERSITY OF OREGON EUGENE, OREGON 97403 telephone (code 503) 342-1411 July 31, 1968 Memorandum for Dr. Johnson: As you are aware, last spring I appointed an Ad Hoc Committee on Racism to report to me areas within the University where we could strengthen our posture as it relates to problems of minority students. This committee has proven extremely helpful submitting to me a series of recommendations which have been reviewed and in most cases there has now been follow-through action to implement the recommendations. At this point, as a follow-up to the activities of last spring, I would suggest that a nucleus task force be formed which could be supplemented from time to time by the necessary personnel to make it possible to conduct in-depth studies in areas where it appears needed. I would further suggest on the basis of the interest and ability displayed by Dr. Robert Agger that he be designated as chairman of this task force with Don Warfield assigned as his executive assistant. Other persons should be designated as a part of the original task force. However, it would be my recommendation that such appointments be delayed until Professor Agger has returned from Europe and there will be an opportunity for you to personally consult with him as well as with Dean Duncan and Ray Hawk.
