DescriptionA sepia-toned photograph of a steamboat (the River Columbia?) at a wharf. The boat is crowded with men, women, and children. A man can be seen at the helm with his hand on the wheel; some of the crowd sit on or stand in front of the railings of the deck; the crowd spills off the prow onto the gangplank and the dry land. Members of a brass band can be seen displaying their instruments.
