Wolves at Play
'Wolves at Play' and 'Wolves, One Month Old' are part of a series of photographs made at research centers throughout the Northwest. The majority of photographs were taken at the University of Oregon's bio-social research center. With the encouragement of Dr. John Fentress, the director, and Jenny Ryan, the center's animal caretaker, Bauguess undertook the project to record something of the beauty and mystery of wolves, as well as their behavior. In 1974 Fentress introduced Bauguess to writer Barry Lopez. Lopez and Bauguess later collaborated on a book that in 1978 became widely circulated as Of Wolves and Men (Scribners, quoted in OAC documentation, 1989).
