Switzler Building, Pendleton, Oregon Building Oregon: Architecture of Oregon and the Pacific Northwest provides over 15,000 images and documentation about the architectural heritage of the Pacific Northwest with special emphasis on Oregon’s built environment.
In collaboration with the Oregon State Historic Preservation Office, many images in the collection represent works listed on the National Register of Historic Places. A significant number of images come from collections donated to the University of Oregon Libraries over the years, including the collection of architectural historian Marion Dean Ross.
Browse & Search features are available at the top left of this page and throughout the collection. Pre-defined browsing is available in these categories: object name, creator, object type, and location (city, county, state).
Use the advanced search features to construct complex searches employing any of the fields that describe the work, such as object name, creator, type of work, location (state, city, county), decade, and style.
The images and their associated documentation are provided to facilitate research, instruction, and personal study. Because the images come from different sources, conditions of use might vary. The Rights field on the image record identifies permitted uses.

Substantial support for this collection comes from the bequest of Jean Gillett, a graduate of the University of Oregon School of Architecture and Allied Arts. The Architecture Foundation of Oregon and the Marion Dean Ross/Pacific Northwest Chapter of the Society of Architectural Historians have also contributed to the development of this project. Content from the Oregon State Historic Preservation Office has enriched the scope and value of this resource. Christine L. Sundt, the Visual Resources Curator, UO Libraries, 1985-2005, collected, preserved, and made accessible the majority of the slides that constitute the source of this digital collection. Those who have researched and documented these important works over many decades deserve the most appreciation.
Questions and comments may be emailed to the project director, Edward H. Teague, Head, Architecture & Allied Arts Library, University of Oregon. The project is a collaborative effort with the AAA Library and Metadata and Digital Services Projects, departments of the University of Oregon Libraries.
