The materials available on the Digital Collections website are drawn from the University of Oregon Libraries, Oregon State University Libraries, OSU and UO faculty collections, partnering institutions and individuals.

Your acceptance of our photographs and documents in any medium constitutes the acknowledgement, understanding, and acceptance of the terms and conditions of use outlined below.

When citing items, please use the "reference url" or "URI" to create the most stable link. Please place attribution on the initial view of an item.

Copyright

Copyright protection is provided by laws of the United States and other countries to the creators of "original works of authorship" including literary, dramatic, artistic, musical, and certain other intellectual works. United States Copyright Law (Title 17, U.S.C.) restricts unauthorized use of copyrighted material; potential users must obtain permission from the copyright holder.

Rights for Items in Digital Collections

Rights information for each item is listed in the "Rights" field provided with the content.

Fair Use

The doctrine of fair use allows limited use of copyrighted material without permission from the copyright holder. Fair use includes comment, criticism, teaching, and private scholarship. Other uses may require written permission from the owning institution.

Public Domain

Many items in our Digital Collections are in the public domain. Items in the public domain include items published before 1923 and federal government documents. If using public domain items, please cite UO Libraries as the source of the material.

Wherever possible, we have made material available under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-No Derivative Works 3.0 United States License. This license allows for copying and distribution of the items without permission as long as the following occurs:

• Proper citation of the item and attribution of UO Libraries as source is listed
• The use is non-commercial
• The items is not transformed, translated, or altered

For other items in the collections, personal use requires written permission from the owner, and includes reference, research, and any other use, provided all such uses are limited to private, non-commercial use.

Commercial Use

You must send an inquiry to the copyright owner and the UO Libraries for any other activities beyond used stated above. These include but are not limited to electronic or paper publishing, video production, exhibits, product presentations, interior design, advertising, or similar commercial purposes. Users assume full responsibility for any infringement of copyright and publication rights of reproduced materials.
